One jar at a time, it all adds up!

Sometimes food preservation looks like a canner full and sometimes the canner is full of gratitude for the small amount you are able to preserve.

Each jar matters.
Each jar makes a difference.

Whatever you do, don’t compare your canner with someone else’s.

How you serve your family is the only thing that matters.

The secret to my canning success?! @forjarsusa canning lids! Within minutes I know if my jars are going to seal (and it’s always a YES! Because those lids always pop! Canning season is in full swing, grab your supplies and save with FLOUR10

Also, I would just love to share the gratitude on these grapes! Again, from the outside it doesn’t look like much, but this is the first harvest in YEARS. So to be able to hand pick to preserving, there’s nothing more satisfying or rewarding than this. Plus I got to gave the memory of picking with my dad.

I break all the sourdough rules because it makes the process ENJOYABLE & FUN

If you’re feeling stressed about your sourdough.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and the process daunting, you don’t need my permission (but you can use this as your sign) to breakup and ditch the rules.

You CAN do your own thing with sourdough to create a process you love.

The sourdough police aren’t going to come after you.

I promise they’re not going to know.

Rules you can break:
Discarding
Temping
Strict feeding schedules
Levain
Having to bake or create something every day
You don’t have to take it to soccer practice and for crying out loud (!!!!) you don’t have to take it on a plane to do stretch and folds

Sourdough is my culture
Sourdough is the means to which I create bread at home And sourdough is my heritage, it’s my way to preserve my great grandfather’s legacy.

I wish more people understood that
Canning your food at home isn’t an area where you should risk it.

{keep reading for my biggest tip}

Don’t guess on if your food can be preserved at home
Do research methods of preservation specific to the food you want to preserve.

Don’t add extra ingredients!
Do follow recipes! You can safely decrease some spices or swap produce varieties (think tomato varieties) but adding more changes the safety of a recipe.

Don’t guess on processing time.
Do select a recipe that has been tested for safety AND adjust for your altitude!

➡️ how do you do this?
In Google, search: extension + “insert food here”
Ex. Extension + pesto (sometimes I add + preservation)
Alternatively, head to @ballcanning or @pomonas.universal.pectin and search these websites

If there is no recommendation for safe canning, you still have options!
Can your food be frozen?
Can your food be dehydrated?
Can your food be freeze dried?

Don’t buy generic lids!

This is how you stretch your dollar!

Fed us with multiple meals

Then the bones plus the innards and neck were turned into bone broth with water and apple cider vinegar (via the crockpot)

Strain and bottle

Then top with water again and add any veggie scraps from the freezer. Simmer 24 Hours again and you have more broth!

You can definitely do a third batch of broth if you’d like to stretch even farther.

AND don’t toss the bones! Grind them up for bone meal for the garden.

Born and raised as a hunter
Well before it was cool for girls to hunt but my dad always brought me and my brother with him.

I love hunting season and what it stands for, not just in the hunting and gathering of meat but the tradition of FAMILY

You help each other out.

From taking my buddy out when he could barely get out and walk the hills to witnessing my husbands first elk.

And now sharing the skills passed down to me from my grandpa, dad and uncles, to my friends hunting for me is putting meat on the table as a family and not just depending upon my husband to do it.
