How this all began

I felt a pop

This all started on day in June while pruning our arborvitaes. I planted my foot and twisted and immediately felt a pop on the inside of my knee. I cringed because I knew instantly I was going to be limited the rest of summer.

I have a unique skillset. Prior to blogging, I spent over 15 years in the world of athletics, sports and physical therapy as an athletic trainer. What I am sharing in this post is not medical advice. I am sharing my story and how I am healing my knee.

Your own Healing

If you have experienced any sort of knee pain, stiffness, limited range of motion, feelings of the knee giving away or stuck, please go see your physician. I cannot stress this enough, if you are struggling and your quality of life (you’re not doing the things that bring you joy), go see your physician.

I am all for healing at home and ditching the system, but the Lord did not bless us with XRAY vision, we do have MRI and xray available to give us the best knowledge possible for treatment.

My disclaimer: I did not see a because physician (athletic trainer) heal thyself. I know whats going on and can do the necessary measures, habit and routines to heal at home.

Supplements

Let food be thy medicine! What we eat can play a part in causing us to be further inflamed OR we can use food to be anti inflammatory aids. Foods that aid in collagen production are what I am opting for:

  • Collagen
  • Liver (natures multivitamin)
  • Zincerola
  • Magnesium
  • Gelatin (to make gummies and marshmallows)
  • Chocolate Collagen (mixed with raw milk for hot chocolate! its so good)

All of the above can be found at perfect supplements. One thing I appreciate about perfect supplements is the rigorous testing for quality. There’s no glyphosate (research this if you haven’t) and I dont have to worry about gluten in my supplements. IF you choose to add any of these supplements into your routine, when you purchase 3 of the perfect brand you save 20%, 6 or more and you save 25% BUT you can also stack my code SOW10 on top to save even more!! You can shop HERE and add my code SOW10 at checkout.

For collagen and gelatin to be absorbed the best, I take beef liver, zincerola (zinc + vitamin c), and magnesium. When I do this, I give my body a boost to better absorb and utilize the collagen I take. It also means I am not just “wasting” money by consuming collagen only but getting the best bang for my buck.

I mix collagen into my coffee, turmeric lattes, smoothies, and yogurt bowls. Collagen mixes incredibly well into hot and cold. Gelatin will GEL if not handled appropriately.

Protein is also important in any recovery. I use the Equip Food Prime Protein. All of their proteins are less than 7 ingredients!! It blows my mind how they can create an incredible flavor of protein with so few ingredients. You can grab yours HERE and save with code FLOURING. I also use their colostrum powder and colostrum gummies (the mango is SO GOOD!)

Other Foods and Supplements

Hydration is key. Hydration will help to lubricate my joints. Think about a door hinge. If it’s rusted it wont open. If our joints are “rusted” then they wont function. hydration is the solution. I drink water with relyte (electrolytes) to maintain my hydration. My flavor choices are: mango, strawberry lemonade, mixed berry or mojito. Use code FLOURING at checkout.

Turmeric with black pepper in turmeric lattes is incredible for aiding your bodies inflammatory response. Salmon, lean meats, garlic, onions, and fermented foods will as well.

Highly processed and high sugar foods are what I am currently avoiding.

Movement

Movement may seem counter intuitive but movements made my knee feel better! Daily stretching is a must for me. I also feel really good when I do my knee strengthening exercises as well as pilates or weight training BUT I have to modify my movement.

I usually spend anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes doing everything (stretching, strength & pilates) depending upon the day of the week.

Because of my background, I know what I need to modify. If you are dealing with any sort of injury, your doctor and physical therapist will let you know what you are able to do.

It’s not about “what you cant do” RATHER make the mental shift to what am I able to STILL do!

Other Modalities

Ice, aleve, taping and TENS have been my friends. I am fairly “crunchy” so I did use homeopathy (arnica cream, peppermint ointment, comfrey oil, arnica pellets). I also did do some gua sha on my knee to help my lymphatic system.

Mental Health

Being injured is a mental battle. Suddenly, you go from living life to now life has limitations. My daily musts: doing my devotions, listening to worship music, and getting outside. Also, I keep my blood sugar in check. I get HANGRY and those blood sugar swings can lead to irritability/moodiness and for the sake of those around me, I need to be fueled well, which goes right back to that supplement section.
